The restaurant

This is a puzzle puzzling me since yesterday. One of my friends asked me to help out for a farewell party she and her friend were wishing to give someone in a restaurant. The plan was to eat some stuff and chat away all through the noon and evening. Poor restro ppl. They would have to bear this clan half a day while they wont order anything amounting to a hefty bill. (i mean generally non veg and alcohols amount to a good bill). There are ppl who are getting late and finish their meal in no time and rush out of the restro but this group wud not make a move unless thrown out ;-)

If I could reverse the whole thing! I feel this system is fully wrong. When we go to dine out, we use the services (for which we pay a tip), we use food (for which we pay bill) and we use space (FREEEEE!!!!)

Now why is this? A restaurant should charge us for space. This is very logical but they never do. They could make the food charges nominal or a bit less and put the space charges on which will obviously multiply with the time you spend eating.  This will also drive out ppl like the above-mentioned and we wont see any waiting ques as we at times encounter outside a restaurant.
